Motorola Razr 50 price

Motorola recently launched its flip phone in India Motorola Razr 50 which has great pricing if you compare with its competitors. The device has larger cover screen compared to its competitors which makes this smartphone standout. The MediaTek processor, with its mediocre system-on-a-chip, is hardly a performance monster. Does it imply sacrificing the experience? Let’s investigate:

Design and Built Quality

Both of the camera islands of the Motorola Razr 50 are neatly surrounded by virtually edge-to-edge cover display glass, giving the device an upscale appearance straight out of the box. The smartphone feels even more luxurious to handle because to its soft-touch vegan leather surface and contoured aluminum frame.

Motorola made an intriguing design decision by adding a strip of vegan leather above the cover screen, preventing the front from having an all-glass finish, as opposed to cutting the cover screen around the cameras.

The hinge snaps flat when closed, minimizing the amount of space where dust can gather on the primary display. The Razr 50 flips open smoothly and easily; it takes some effort, but not enough to be frustrating. With the exception of extremely sharp angles, the hinge enables the phone to open fully flat and retains the upper lid in most positions. Though there is a little amount of side-to-side movement between the two parts when closed, suggesting potential cost-cutting in this area, the hinge seems solid overall.

When the Razr 50 is opened, its 6.9-inch primary display is visible. The majority of its bezels are concealed under a glossy plastic frame that encircles the screen from all sides, with the exception of the hinge. Though it doubles in thickness when closed, the smartphone is svelte at 7.25mm when open, and I had no trouble holding or carrying it in my pocket. It is also lightweight at only 188g. Despite the primary display’s enlarged 22:9 aspect ratio, its well-balanced weight distribution makes it pleasant to operate with one hand.

The smartphone’s front looks to be made primarily of glass, although there are discernible bezels around the entire display. The 3.63-inch cover screen, however, is a major improvement over the 1.5-inch model from the previous year. With compatibility for third-party apps, the cover display is a vivid FHD+ quality pOLED panel that looks amazing and offers enough of room for viewing videos or browsing social media. Its 90Hz refresh rate also guarantees quick and fluid performance.

Users coming from standard smartphones may find the stretched 6.9-inch primary display a little strange because of the greater vertical area for content. Still, getting used to it doesn’t take long. The flexible inner pOLED panel provides FHD+ quality and clear, vivid colors, much as the exterior screen. Additionally, it enables a faster refresh rate of 120 Hz, which makes scrolling and transitions more fluid. It becomes clear in direct sunlight that the primary display is brighter than the cover screen. Still, the cover screen functions well enough outside.

Performance

The MediaTek Dimensity 7300X processor powers the Motorola Razr 50, which is an odd pick for a smartphone costing more than Rs 60,000. Nonetheless, it is evident from this choice that Motorola is committed to lowering the cost and increasing accessibility of the foldable form factor.
When combined with 8GB of RAM, the CPU performs well for its intended use, managing multiple screens and handling daily chores with ease, making for a generally seamless experience. Even light-intensive operations, like multitasking on a split screen, can occasionally create stutters. The gadget never gets overly hot while playing visually demanding games or capturing high-definition films, even though it usually stays cool throughout similar activities.

Camera

The 50MP main camera of the Razr 50 has optical image stabilization. Because the vanilla model has comparatively less processing power than the Ultra model, Motorola could have used alternative processing algorithms even if the sensor looks to be the same. The primary camera produces bright, well-reproduced daylight images with little to no overprocessing. But because it uses a lot of software to improve details, it can look a little fake in really strong lighting. Though they lack finer details, low-light photos are often more attractive. The Razr 50’s camera system is notable for its portrait mode, which has 24mm, 35mm, and 50mm settings. I generally utilized the 24mm and 35mm settings, and both resulted in excellent portraits with skin tones, edge detection, and a blurred natural backdrop.

Its 13MP ultra-wide camera is not very impressive. Although it produces good color in natural light, it has trouble maintaining white balance under artificial illumination. Its focusing function is helpful for macro photography, nevertheless.
For social networking, the 32MP front-facing camera on the primary internal display produces respectable pictures and selfies. For selfies, though, I always liked to use the main camera with the cover display as it produced consistently superior shots in all lighting scenarios.

With all of its cameras, the Razr 50 can capture videos in up to 4K quality at 30 frames per second. Drop to Full HD if you want to record at 60 frames per second. During daylight hours, 4K recording exhibits remarkable color vibrancy and sufficient detail. Reducing jitter during motion is another effective use of adaptive stabilization. The camcorder mode, which turns on automatically when you record with the rear cameras folded 90 degrees, is one of my favorite features. The preview shows on half of the screen, while the other half converts into a touchpad for camera controls.

Software and experience

The Motorola Razr 50’s ability to operate virtually like a complete smartphone display thanks to its optimization for the cover screen is one of its main advantages. The majority of third-party applications, including well-known social media sites like Instagram and streaming apps like YouTube  Netflix, and Crunchyroll can be used on the cover screen and work rather well. Swiping between widget-like panels on the cover screen allows you to access these applications and other features like Weather, fast contacts, and calendar. Additionally, the phone has pre-installed games like Marble Mayhem and RetroDrift—which are quite addictive—for the cover screen.

The Google Gemini AI app, which has been tailored for the smaller display and allows for seamless communication with the AI chatbot, is also supported by the cover screen. I even used the cover screen to test the new Gemini Live function, and it worked just as well as it would have on a full-sized display.

The way apps switch between the main and cover screens has been optimized by Motorola. You may select the applications that can operate on the cover screen as well as whether you want the app to switch between displays automatically, manually, or not at all in the settings. This transition functions both ways: from the cover screen to the main screen and the other way around.

Motorola’s HelloUI UI is as simple to use as it is on the company’s flagship handsets. With the exception of a few added features that improve the standard Android experience, including the ability to use AI-generated wallpapers and Smart Connect for connecting to external screens or other devices, it has very no bloatware or irritating notifications.

Battery and charging

The Motorola Razr 50’s battery life is greatly influenced by how you utilize the screens, just as with any foldable. The battery lasted a whole day during my testing, during which I mostly utilized the cover screen for brief chores like responding to messages, checking alerts, and obtaining updates. It works a whole day.

Verdict

The Motorola Razr 50, which retails for Rs 64,999, is among the most reasonably priced foldable smartphones available right now. The startup offers a foldable interface that is well-optimized at a cheaper price range without sacrificing the software experience. Furthermore, the bigger cover screen improves usefulness by supporting widgets, specialized applications, and third-party apps. That being said, the Razr 50 is a good choice for anyone who want to try out a foldable handset, even with the performance and camera concessions that have been made. However, the Razr 50 Ultra may be a better option if you’re looking for a more comprehensive bundle.
