YouTube new community feature, which imitates the Discord community feature, will help foster ‘back-and-forth conversations and fan-to-fan connections.’ The feature adds spaces on channels where fans and creators can join conversations.
Communities, which was first introduced at a Made on YouTube event in September, allows viewers and channel owners to create and share content, which Google claims would promote “back-and-forth conversations and fan-to-fan connections.”
YouTube is now enabling this feature to a limited number of creators and inviting them to enable communities. To enable go to the community section to turn them on. In addition to removing troublemakers, creators can filter and manage who posts in their communities. At present, it is only accessible on mobile devices. There is no news for the desktop, but we hope soon it will be available for the desktop.
Community post is a different thing, so to avoid confusion YouTube is going to rename the “Community” tab to “Post”. This is where the creator shares the latest video details and announcements.
Over the past year, YouTube has released several new features, such as a Sleep Timer for users who fall asleep while watching YouTube and collaborative playlists that let users share their playlists with friends and family so they may contribute recommendations. The video behemoth also unveiled AI-suggested comments for time-pressed filmmakers and a customizable mini-player to improve multitasking while viewing videos.
