MediaTek Dimensity 7400 and 7400X launched

Qualcomm and MediaTek are the biggest companies to produce chipsets for Android smartphones. Now, MediaTek has come up with two new chips designed for mid-range Android devices. But it looks like it is rebranding the existing hardware into a new chipset.

MediaTek Dimensity 7400 and 7400X have been announced and are the successors to the 7300 series. Both chips are built on 4nm process and manufactured by TSMC, and it is an octa core processor. For efficiency, the 7400 has four ARM Cortex-A78 performance cores running at 2.6GHz and four Cortex-A55 cores running at a slower 2GHz. On both new versions, a Mali-G615 MC2 processor that supports LPDDR4x and LPDDR5 memory and UFS3.1 storage handles graphics tasks. A WFHD+ or FHD+ display may be driven by the GPU at up to 120 Hz or 144 Hz, respectively.

Additionally, both processors offer up to 3.27Gbps downlink via Wi-Fi 6E, carrier aggregation, and 5G. NPU 655 for onboard AI task processing is also supported, as is Bluetooth version 5.4. With support for 200MP sensors and up to 4K recording at 30 frames per second with EIS in HDR, MediaTek has provided the Imagiq 950 Image Signal Processor (ISP) for the Dimensity 7400 and 7400X. Additionally, Google’s Ultra HDR recording is supported. LPDDR5 and LPDDR4X memory, with maximum rates of 6400 Mbps, are supported. The chipsets support both UFS 3.1 and UFS 2.2 for storage.

MediaTek Dimensity 7400 and 7400X launched with no major upgrades

From 2023 you might have seen all the chipset are same and you are not wrong. Company has a habit of playing safe and give new name to old chip, customers get fooled by these brand and they think they are getting latest hardware.

The performance cores this year are clocked 0.1GHz faster than last year, and the NPU 655 is reportedly 15% better than the NPU on the Dimensity 7300 and 7300X. However, we haven’t seen a device with the new silicon on retail shelves yet, so there may be noticeable improvements.

Although the new MediaTek Dimensity 7400 and 7400X phones will be available in stores in the first quarter of this year, we don’t think they will significantly impact the market given their processing power from the previous year.

Main Difference

Although the essential specs of the Dimensity 7400 and Dimensity 7400X are quite similar, they are built for various types of devices. The D7400X is optimized for foldable smartphones, guaranteeing improved efficiency and power management for use scenarios involving multiple screens. The D7400 offers comparable performance to standard smartphones without the extra features required for foldable screens. The first quarter of 2025 is anticipated to see the release of smartphones with the Dimensity 7400 and 7400X.
