This test can be taken at home, all you need to do is take a Hormometer and take a sample of saliva, to do that there’s a thin cartridge that you stick in your mouth for a minute. Once the sample is collected, the new Eli app uses your phone camera will determine the color intensity and sample patterns. According to Eli Health, the app will then offer tailored trends and suggestions on stress, sleep, sports performance, and fertility based on the test and results.
Eli Health introduces Hormometer
Eli Health has come up with two types of hormone tests: Cortisol and Progesterone. The stress hormone, cortisol, is essential for controlling the fight-or-flight response, blood pressure, blood sugar, metabolism, and sleep cycles. Negative health effects, such as Cushing’s syndrome, inadvertent weight gain or loss, exhaustion, Type 2 diabetes, and irregular blood pressure, are frequently associated with long-term imbalances, both high and low. Progesterone, on the other hand, is a hormone involved in reproduction. Depression, infertility issues, and irregular periods can all be caused by abnormal amounts.
But the big question is will it be accessible to customers? Hormone testing is often performed at a doctor’s office and must be forwarded to a lab. It can take a few days or weeks. According to Eli Health, Hormometer will be available for $8 per month with a 12-month commitment as part of a subscription plan. Compared to other at-home hormone testing, which requires samples to be mailed in and can cost anywhere from $30 to $250, that is competitive.
Eli Health claims the hormometer is FDA-registered.ย That does not mean it got clearance or approval, According to the company, third-party testing revealed that its cortisol and progesterone tests agreed with FDA-approved, gold-standard lab tests in 97 and 94 percent of cases, respectively. Eli Health will start its beta test in U.S. and Canada and full release might take a year.
Science behind Saliva
Eli Health is the first to provide a portable, rapid saliva-based solution with unmatched precision across many hormones, even though the relationship between hormone concentrations in blood and saliva has been known for years. Five years of intense research and development, backed by a $9 million investment, produced this discovery. Saliva contains different types of hormones that are produced by salivary glands and taste cells.
