Introduction:

OnePlus has been known for its software experience, but for the last few years, after the exit of Carl Pei, the former CEO of OnePlus, the company has lost its touch. This does not mean that in the last few years they haven’t released good phones. Definitely,ย  lots of impressive smartphones have been released, but when it comes to the budget or midrange segment, the Nord series has been a disaster. Not every Nord phone, but recently, the Nord 3 has dropped the price in India to Rs. 20,000. Initially, it was launched at a price of Rs. 33,999, and it is powered by MediaTek Dimensity 9000 MT6893. A lot of users are facing heating issues, and suddenly Flipkart is also selling the device, though the official reseller is Amazon for OnePlus.ย Now OnePlus has launched Nord CE4 Lite at Rs. 19,999 which uses old processor just like old wine in new bottle.

Design and Display:

The phone looks similar to previous CE phones; the OnePlus Nord CE4 Lite has a similar design as the CE4, rounded-shape cameras, and an LED flash. The back panel is made up of plastic, and the LED flash looks out from a distance.

The phones come in three different colors: Mega Blue, Super Silver, and Ultra Orange. The Mega Blue variant is inspired by Mega Man and is the most vibrant shade you will see on any smartphone. The back panel does not attract any fingerprints, so this great user does not need to remove smudges every time.

The OnePlus Nord CE4 Lite is well built and in hand feel is simply outstanding. The phone also has IP54 protection which protects from water and dust.

The 6.67-inch, 120Hz, AMOLED display of the Nord CE4 Lite features a resolution of 2400 x 1800. This is the first AMOLED-equipped Nord CE Lite phone. OnePlus finally got rid of LCD models. The phone display is impressive, and watching media is a delight. The company claims to have support up to 1200 nits in high brightness mode and peak brightness up to 2100 nits. I personally don’t get why brands hype brightness when they don’t even provide HDR support. The display functions decently in terms of color. Natural and Vivid modes are available; the former is limited to the sRGB color space, while the latter is restricted to Display P3. Overall, the display is good for viewing YouTube or binge-watching Netflix.

Battery and Charging:

The battery capacity for the Indian variant is higher than that of the international variant; in India, it ships with 5500 mAh, while in the rest of the world, it has 5110 mAh. Taking about the battery in an Android phone is futile; after months or a year, the battery starts showing its true colors, i.e., the battery doesn’t last for a day. But you don’t need to worry because the OnePlus Nord CE4 Lite ships with an 80W SUPERVOOC fast charger. Users might think an 80W charger will charge in 30 minutes, but you are wrong. The phone does come with an 80-watt charger, but it’s the slowest charger you will ever see. I mean, it took approx. 1 hour to charge. How come this is a fast charger? Nord 3 comes with an 80W charger, but it charges the phone in 30-35 minutes, and then it also has a heating issue.

Performance:

The OnePlus Nord CE4 Lite runs on Oxygen OS 14, based on Android 14. There are some pre-installed apps, but most of them can be uninstalled. OnePlus does ask whether you want to install apps or not; you can choose not to install, but still, there are a few apps pre-installed. The OS is malware-free if you uninstall third-party apps.

The OnePlus Nord CE4 Lite is powered by the Snapdragon 695 Chipset; this is a 3-year-old chipset that has been used in the Nord series before. For some reason, OnePlus is not upgrading the processor. Earlier Nord CE3 Lite and CE2 Lite also had the same processor. Even the RAM type and UFS are the same, i.e., LPDDR4X memory and UFS 2.2 storage.

Despite its unappealing appearance, the Nord CE4 Lite is still fully functional because of remarkable software optimization. The phone never felt sluggish or unresponsive, and every animation ran smoothly without any jitters. Actually, you wouldn’t really have anything to complain about in terms of regular usage if you weren’t aware of the 3-year-old mid-range chipset at its core.

Camera:

It has a dual-setup camera, a 50 MP primary camera, and a 2 MP depth sensor. The main camera is 50 MP, which takes good photos. The image quality is quite nice, the color reproduction is great, and the photos come out to be more vibrant. The detailing of the image is impressive, but sometimes it looks over sharpened. The photos taken in daylight are good, and in low-light conditions, they are decent. Theย Front is of 16MP and it takes good portrait photos

It can also record 1080p, which is okay, but the dynamic range is not that great in videos as well as photos. The stabilization is also average.

The issue is also because of the chipset rather than the smartphone, it does not has HDR capabilities and does not support 4K. OnePlus should have upgraded the processor rather than using same processor again and again. They are just focusing on changing the body, they should put focus on it core.

Verdict:

If you are OnePlus fan then you can buy it but I would recommend you to buy iQOO Z9x with SD 6 gen 1, not just that there are other better options available under Rs. 20,000. Overall this is not that bad if you ignore the processor the phone is great, the animation are smooth, and lag free.
