Windows 11 recently released a new update, also known as Windows 11 24h2, that has a lot of new features, and one of the of the new features is the Windows 11 recall feature, which is based on artificial intelligence. Users are concerned about privacy. Though Microsoft has stalled this feature for some time, soon this feature will come, and its concerning.
What is Windows 11 recall feature?
Recall is an AI tool that allows users to see past actions taken by users; it creates a timeline and records what you were doing in the past. It will help users like me who are forgetful just opening timelines and easily locate items. Many contend that this oversteps the bounds of personal privacy, even if it could appear helpful to people who enjoy monitoring their actions. With the 24H2 upgrade, the feature—which was intended to be deactivated by default—now shows up on all platforms.
Recall Deactivation
The main issue is that there are a lot of problems with recall feature deactivation. A test done by YouTuber Chris Titus Tech tested the Windows 11 recall feature, and after deactivating the recall, a lot of problems arose. For instance, the Windows 11 file manager would lose its latest features like dark mode and multiple tabs. This suggests that the core system and recall are closely related. Many consumers feel caught off guard by this adjustment as a consequence. The community is frustrated that Recall was not mentioned in the release blog for the 24H2 upgrade.
Solution
Despite these problems, some tech-savvy users have figured a how to get around Recall without sacrificing any crucial Windows functions. GitHub developers have provided modifications that enable Recall to be turned off after the user signs in. These methods aren’t for the average user, though, and there may still be hazards involved, such uneven behavior following system restarts.
Privacy concerns
The new recall feature has raised some questions regarding privacy. Many users like me find these features helpful, while some critics were against it because there will be no privacy for users. Ultimately, it appears that if Microsoft wants to prevent additional criticism in its next upgrades, it will need to strike a better balance between AI technologies and user choice.
How to Disable Windows 11 Recall?
To Disable recall feature follow these steps:
- Open ‘Settings’ App in windows
- Go to ‘Privacy & security’
- Inside privacy and security select ‘Recall & snapshots’
- Toggle off ‘Recall’.
There was an option where users could uninstall the recall app, but Microsoft said it was just a bug, so users who are concerned about privacy might not like this.
