On Thursday night, bright northern lights from the upper Midwest, the Northeast, and the Pacific Northwest could be seen in a number of states.
Residents from Oregon to New York may be able to see the breathtaking phenomenon known as the Auroras Borealis, though they are best visible in Alaska and Canada.
The aurora will become brighter and more active as it moves away from the poles, according to the Kp level 6 forecast.
August saw a strong geomagnetic solar storm with at least five flares with ejections that caused the auroras to be visible as far west as northern California and as far south as Alabama.
The aurora is expected to be bright, active and visible in parts of 17 continental U.S. states on Thursday night, Sept. 12, 2024.
