ONE nation one election

'One Nation, One Election' will be put into effect within the next five years, or before this term ends, according to Home Minister Amit Shah.

Speaking during a press conference on Tuesday, Shah emphasized the noteworthy accomplishments made by the NDA administration in its first 100 days in office .

In his Independence Day address last month, Prime Minister Narendra Modi made a persuasive argument for 'one nation, one election,' underlining that repeated elections were holding down the country's development.

A major component of the BJP's manifesto for the next Lok Sabha elections is this idea.

A high-level commission led by former president Ram Nath Kovind earlier this year suggested holding simultaneous elections for the state and Lok Sabha legislatures as a first step, with local body elections to be held within a hundred days.

By 2029, it is anticipated that the Law Commission would propose synchronized elections for all three tiers of government: the Lok Sabha, state assemblies, and local entities like municipalities and panchayats.

The Kovind panel has asked for the formation of a "Implementation Group" in order to facilitate the seamless implementation of its recommendations, even if it has not provided a timeframe for doing so.

The panel has recommended eighteen constitutional revisions, the majority of which will need to be approved by Parliament in the form of bills, as opposed to state assembly ratification.
