Why do we celebrate National space day on 23rd August?
In honor of the victorious landing of the Vikram Lander from the Chandrayaan-3 mission on the lunar surface, India has declared August 23rd to be National Space Day.
With an emphasis on motivating the next generation and advancing space exploration, India, the fourth nation to land a rover on the Moon and the first to do it in the southern pole area, is celebrating its accomplishment nationwide.
On August 23, 2023, the Chandrayaan-3 mission—a follow-up to Chandrayaan-2—launched from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh, and the Vikram Lander made a gentle landing with success.
Together with the Pragyaan Rover, the Vikram Lander landed at a location known as "Shiv Shakti."
